Principal's Message
Dear Virginia R. Boris Elementary Families,
It is with great pride and excitement that I begin my fifth year as the principal of Virginia R. Boris Elementary School. In my tenure as the site leader, I’ve had the joy of watching our community grow and thrive. This year promises to bring more excitement and academically enriching opportunities as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the opening of our school. We are part of a unified district Where Tradition Inspires Tomorrow and Boris Elementary is “Rooted in Tradition” of being Brave, Bold, and Charging into the Future.
As your school principal, I want to share some information and traditions of my own. I was born in New Orleans and raised in Oakland and Fresno. I’m the eldest of three children and the only daughter of parents who recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. I graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School and earned my Bachelor’s in Health Science and Master’s degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and Educational Administration from California State University, Fresno. My husband and I met in high school and celebrated 35 years of marriage this past June. We’re blessed with four children, three of whom are proud Clovis Unified graduates, and our youngest is entering her senior year at Clovis High School.
With over 30 years in education, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of a well-rounded academic foundation rooted in excellence, care, and equity for all students. Since joining Boris Elementary, I’ve been deeply inspired by the warmth, collaboration, and commitment of our staff, students, and families. Together, we uphold the Clovis Unified standard of excellence. Through programs like PBIS and the Positivity Project, we ensure every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to be BOLD: Believe in Good character, Be Organized and Prepared, Lead the Way, and stay Determined to do our Best.
Year after year, Boris Elementary continues to shine! Our school had wonderful success on the 2025 CAASPP with a 7% increase in ELA and a 6% increase in Math. Furthermore, our English Learners showed growth in both ELA and Math. Our students have excelled in academics as well as co-curriculars, winning championships in softball, football, wrestling, and track and field. Our students have earned recognition at both the district and county levels in choir, oral interpretation and in the area science fair. We’re proud to be a Platinum PBIS school and a designated Digital Citizenship School, hallmarks of our commitment to 21st Century Learning through the 6 C’s: Critical Thinking, Communication, Creativity, Collaboration, Character, and Citizenship.
These achievements are only possible because of our incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families. Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we will continue to embrace the “Boris Way,” set ambitious goals, and inspire one another to be the best versions of ourselves.
I look forward to another amazing year of growth, learning, and success at Virginia R. Boris Elementary.
Let’s SIC em,
Demetra Vincent-Walker (Mrs. Walker)
