Meet Virginia R. Boris

Dr. Virginia Boris
Dr. Virginia “Ginny” Boris began her career in Clovis Unified as a math teacher, and spent the next 37 years in the Clovis Unified School District serving as a teacher, high school administrator, middle school principal and area superintendent.
Dr. Boris repeatedly demonstrated her willingness to be a pioneer in the establishment of new schools and departments as the District grew between 1971 and the first decade of the twenty-first century. First, when opening the District’s second high school, Clovis West, in 1976; and again when she became the Principal of Kastner Intermediate School in 1985;  in accepting the challenge to lead the Buchanan Area as its Area Superintendent in 1990, and finally when she was charged with the leadership of the District’s Curriculum and Instruction.
She served her last 15 years as associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction. She has received many accolades, one of them being the CUSD employee of the year. Ginny has always been committed to improving educational systems and instructional practices to positively impact student achievement. Many people describe Ginny as someone who always has a focus on what is right for kids, and will do whatever it takes to meet the learning needs of students and instill them the value of learning and education.

Ginny currently serves as the Co-Director of the Central Valley Educational Leadership Institute (CVELI) and is also a lecturer at Fresno State University. She teaches and mentors aspiring educational leaders at the Master’s and Doctoral level in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Committed to making the University experience relevant, Dr. Boris has enhanced the University’s Central Valley footprint through course-based fieldwork, interagency partnerships, and CVELI programs and events. Through many of these courses and partnerships, school districts around the valley and state benefit from her commitment to students and learning. Ginny continues to serve Clovis Unified School District, working closely with the Clovis East Area in the areas of instructional improvement and professional development for teachers and administrators.

The Impact of Facility Bonds at Our School

“Maximizing Achievement for All Students,” means making sure that every school, no matter when it was built, is a high-quality learning environment where students can do their best.

Over time, our school has benefited from community support of facility bond measures in many ways, allowing us to continue to have a modern, well-maintained campus equitable to other schools around Clovis Unified.

Since 2012, Boris Elementary School has received the following projects funded by two Measure A facility bonds:
  • Our school was built using 2012 Measure A funds
  • Upgraded LED Lighting
  • Upgraded classroom audio-visual systems
  • Upgraded security cameras

Every school facility in Clovis Unified has benefited from bond projects not once or twice, but many times over. Across the District, bond funds have been used for:
  • Fixing leaking roofs, electrical wiring, fire safety doors and smoke alarms
  • Repairing and upgrading deteriorating science, engineering and math classrooms to provide modern learning spaces at all of our schools
  • Building new schools and adding space at existing schools to reduce overcrowding
  • Building new performing arts and athletic spaces and upgrading others
  • Making needed updates to facilities to provide safe, clean drinking water
  • Improving school safety and security by updating communication systems and security systems
  • Maintaining equitable facilities at schools of all ages through modernization and maintenance projects
  • And many, many other upgrades and repairs
Many people don’t realize that as of 2024, our community has a lower tax rate on school bonds than it did in 2020, 2010 or even 2000. They also don’t know that Clovis Unified residents pay a lower tax rate than people living in neighboring school districts like Fresno, Sanger and Central.
